Michael Mann has produced another stylish action film reticent of Heat. Unfortunately, Miami Vice is so stylish and slick that I hated it. Why is it that studios feel the need to mess with greatness. The television show was rock solid thanks to Don Johnson.
Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx just showed up for a paycheck and have no emotional depth to their characters. Farrell's thick accent comes through during some intense sequences which is ridiculous. The storlyine and editing leave a lot to be desired. Many times during the film I wondered when the action was going to pick up the pace. All in all I would not waste my time seeing this in the theatre, wait until it comes out on DVD or HBO.

The Squid & The Whale Review

A look in the lives of a family torn apart by divorce and filled with comedic and dark moments throughout the film. This is a great character study full of scenic locations and memorable moments with Brooklyn, New York as the backdrop. Unique camera angles and intelligent dialogue make this film enjoyable.
Jeff Daniels masterfully portrays failing author and professor and patriarch of the family, Bernard Berkman. Laura Linney portrays the mother who has recently begun to outshine her husband by receiving a book deal and having her work published. Jesse Eisenberg is a rising star and will be a great success because of his timing and believable portrayal of the eldest son, Walt Berkman. Owen Kline portrays Walt's young brother Frank who is experience growing pains and is troubled by the separation of his parents. Anna Paquin portrays a sultry student and love interest of Bernard's. William Baldwin portrays failed tennis pro Ivan who teaches Frank tennis and life lessons. Brooklyn is another character in this film because the movie is entrenched with New York culture and way of life.
